Raiders bench Derek Carr for Jarrett Stidham: What comes next for the quarterback, as well as likely destinations in 202

The Raiders have a slim chance of making the NFL playoffs in 2022, but they are not mathematically out of the running going into Week 17 versus the 49ers.
However, head coach Josh McDaniels has decided to make a quarterback move, benching Derek Carr in favour of backup Jarrett Stidham for the remainder of the season. Read more
After Week 16's close loss to the Steelers, McDaniels left the door open for a quarterback switch, and it is now clear that Carr is no longer the starting quarterback for Las Vegas, possibly permanently.

McDaniels told reporters, "We think it's an opportunity to evaluate a younger player who hasn't had much time to play."
"Derek was fantastic to talk to; he knows the situation we're in and is really sympathetic.
There is much to do.

In order to prevent distractions, Carr will sit out the remaining two games of the regular season, according to NFL Media.
He won't participate in practise and his status will be "not injury related."

Carr, a three-time Pro Bowler who led the NFL in passing yards (3,522), touchdowns (24) and interceptions (14) this season, had started 91 straight games for the Raiders, the longest active streak of any quarterback in the league.
The veteran was instrumental in the team's record-breaking acquisition of wide receiver Davante Adams this summer after he just inked a three-year, $121.5 million agreement keeping him in Las Vegas through 2025.
But under McDaniels, he's been less effective than usual, unable to stabilise a mercurial attack and finish games in which Las Vegas has led.
