Conor Coady's unfortunate own goal turned him from hero to villain, but Rashford's excellent work earned him the MVP award for the evening.
Even though the Garnacho penalty was severe on Everton, the overall tone of the first 90 minutes suggests that they didn't deserve to advance. Dominic Calvert-Lewin believed he had tied the score at 2-2 but a VAR review determined that the goal was offside.


The outcome retains United in the hunt for four trophies, but also puts Everton manager Frank Lampard under more pressure before potentially crucial Premier League matches against Southampton and West Ham.

A graduate student at Washington State University was detained on Friday in his native Pennsylvania in connection with the savage killings of four University of Idaho students last month in their off-campus house, a crime that shook a nearby college town.
